Why Does TechSoup Charge Sales Tax on Some Offers
In September 2012, TechSoup began to collect state sales tax as a result of the Assembly Bill 155 (AB 155) aka the "Amazon Law" being passed in California. The Amazon Law requires certain types of out-of-state retailers to collect and report sales tax. Since this is required by state law, TechSoup is not legally allowed to block the sales tax from being applied to our members' requests.
While TechSoup cannot block sales tax from being applied, we can remove the sales tax after the request has been placed and recorded, or refund the sales tax after the request is processed and fulfilled.
Request Removal or Refund of Sales Tax
Contact TechSoup Customer Service and provide a copy of your organization's state resale certificate, exemption certificate, or an acceptable proof of your exempt status from your state.
Once TechSoup Customer Service receives your organization's acceptable proof of your exempt status from your state, we will escalate your request to have your sales tax removed or refunded from a pending request.
Removal Process

- Contact TechSoup Customer Service to request the sales tax be removed from your pending request.
- Have your sales certificate and Request Number ready before accessing our Chat Support.
- Sales tax is typically removed within three to five business days from when TechSoup acknowledges receipt of your sales tax certificate.
- Once the sales tax is removed, log into your TechSoup account and add payment to the pending request.
