Eligibility
Programs, departments, and projects owned and operated by a 501(c)(3) Public Charity are not typically eligible for their own TechSoup account, since they do not carry their own 501(c)(3) status with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). While they are not eligible for their own TechSoup account, programs, departments, and projects are eligible to request offers through their parent organization’s account instead. Organization types are based on your organization as a whole and cannot be based on individual programs, departments, projects, or activities.
Please note, fiscally sponsored programs and initiatives are not eligible for TechSoup and our corporate partners’ nonprofit programs. They cannot use their fiscal sponsor’s TechSoup account to access TechSoup and our corporate partners’ nonprofit programs.
While programs and departments are not typically eligible for their own TechSoup account, there are a few exceptions to this policy.
Exceptions for Schools Affiliated with a Place of Worship
Your place of worship and its affiliated school may be eligible for their own separate TechSoup accounts. Learn more about schools (preschool – 12th grade) affiliated with places of worship and religious classes eligibility
Exceptions for Colleges and Universities
There are three exceptions to this policy for colleges and universities:
- Separate campuses located in different cities may qualify as branch locations of the parent organization that holds tax-exempt status with the IRS.
- Campus libraries are eligible for their own account if they are listed in the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) database.
- Law libraries are eligible for their own account if they have a letter from their state librarian confirming their library is part of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).
How to Use Your Parent Organization's TechSoup Account
We recommend checking with your parent organization before adding or using their TechSoup account to request nonprofit offers. Some of our corporate partners' nonprofit programs have quantity allotments that limit how many offers an organization can request in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) or its lifetime. Review our corporate partners' eligibility requirements and restrictions for their nonprofit programs.
Add your parent organization to your TechSoup account, then browse the TechSoup catalog or see what offers your organization is eligible for with the Eligibility Quiz.
Once added, the organization's details in your TechSoup account should reflect your entire organization. It should not reflect a single program, department. or project.
