New Commerce Experience (NCE) is a new back-end system that is designed to streamline management of all your Microsoft Cloud subscriptions.
It is Microsoft’s name for a new set of cloud subscription rules related to customer subscription management, license additions and reductions, and subscription cancellations.
Starting September 1, 2024, Microsoft will begin rolling out the New Commerce Experience (NCE) for all nonprofit cloud subscriptions. The change will take effect upon your next subscription term renewal on or after September 1, 2024.
At your renewal date, Microsoft will automatically migrate your subscriptions to NCE. Your license types and current billing period (monthly versus annual) will not change.
What will change?
Billing Terms
TechSoup will no longer offer monthly billing for an annual subscription term. If you want to commit to an annual contract, you will have to pay up front for the full year. If you would like to pay on a monthly basis, you may opt for a month-to-month subscription.
Please note that there may be different pricing offered for monthly versus annual billing terms.
Cancellations and License Reductions
Your subscription will be subject to a new cancellation policy. You may only cancel your subscription or reduce your license count within 72 hours of provisioning a new subscription or renewing an existing one.
Updated Terms and Conditions
Summary of the main changes:
-
Payments: You will be charged using the payment method your organization has chosen (credit/debit card or eCheck - ACH). If we are unable to process your payment, we will notify you via email. You will have 72 hours to update your payment method or resolve the issue. Otherwise, your subscriptions will be automatically canceled.
-
Renewal Payments: Payments made via bank transfer or checks must be made thirty (30) days prior to the date of the renewal subscription. Customers who pay via bank transfer or checks will only be eligible for the annual or triennial term billing cycles.
-
Cancellations: You may cancel your order or reduce license-count within three (3) calendar days (i.e., 72 hours) following your time of purchase or renewal.
- Refunds: Prorated refunds are only possible if the return is made within three (3) calendar days (i.e., 72 hours) following your time of purchase or renewal.

What Will Stay the Same?
The features and functionality of your Microsoft subscriptions, such as Microsoft 365 or Office 365, will remain the same as well as the process to obtain Microsoft Cloud products.
NCE will only impact the subscription management.
What This Means for Your current Microsoft 365 and Office 365 plans:
If you have annual billing for an annual term:
Your subscription will continue with an annual term, and you will be billed annually. Your pricing will also continue to be protected for 12 months, and you can cancel or reduce your license count within the first 72 hours after your renewal.
If you have monthly billing for an annual term:
This option will no longer be available. Upon the renewal of your next subscription term, your account will automatically transition to a monthly billing cycle with a monthly term.
A monthly term is more flexible and allows you to readily adjust your subscription to fit your organization's evolving needs. However, you would receive only one month of price protection.
If you prefer the stability of an annual term, consider switching to annual billing for an annual term. This option secures your pricing for the entire year, which may aid in budgetary planning.
If you stay with month to month billing, you may see a price increase for your subscriptions.
