What is the difference between .com and .org domain extensions?
Domains that end in .org are typically used for nonprofit organizations, while .com is used for commercial organizations. Using .org is ideal for nonprofit organizations since it increases visibility and credibility in the global nonprofit sector. Although organizations are validated before requesting a .org domain on TechSoup, there is no regulated vetting process outside of TechSoup for using .org for domains. The .org extension is open to anyone who buys a domain name.
Currently, TechSoup is only offering .org domain extensions because that extension is intended to be reserved for use in the nonprofit sector.
