What is the difference between a domain, website hosting, and email hosting?
Domains (or Domain Names) and Domain Registrars
The domain name is the URL or web address of the website. An example of a domain name is mydomain.com. Individuals or companies can purchase and register domain names to enable online identities and websites. When you purchase and register a domain name, you own it and no one else can use it.
A domain registrar is a company that registers a domain name for you and gives you access to manage it. Registering your domain with a domain registrar is usually part of the domain purchasing process and the first step in getting a website up and running. With a domain name, you have an online address (URL) to attach to your hosted website.
Website (or Domain) Hosting
Hosting is a service that allows individuals or companies to have a website on the Internet and have it be associated with a domain name. Hosting is the storing of data and files, like web pages, images, videos, and other content that make up a website.
Email Hosting
Email hosting is a service that allows you to send and receive emails using a domain name, like yourname@yourdomain.org. Email hosting services can provide you with ways to access your email accounts and provide storage space for messages and other data associated with your email account. Email hosting may also include security measures to ensure the safety and integrity of emails sent and received.
